History of MicroDose Therapeutx, Inc.

MicroDose’s journey began in a small diner where three friends met for coffee and conversation one day. The subject, as usual for the three, quickly turned to the healthcare industry. Their many years of combined experience in the industry allowed them to turn a critical eye to the state of various drug delivery systems – what worked well, what didn’t, and most importantly – how such systems could be improved. Out of this casual meeting a simple idea was formed – to build a company dedicated to creating better solutions. This simple idea rapidly germinated and turned into action, as the three began to further identify oral, pulmonary, and transdermal drug delivery technologies which didn’t quite meet expectations. Identifying the shortcoming of a technology was the easy part. The hard work began as they strove to formulate practical solutions.

“Thinking outside the box” is an overused phrase, but fitting for MicroDose’s history. In order to develop new and practical solutions, they needed to completely rethink what had come before in drug delivery – the inhaler, the syringe, the simple pill, and in disease therapy in general. And with trial and error, successes and setbacks, and the occasional, all-important, “eureka” moment, they have succeeded in creating a range of truly revolutionary technologies and products that ‘change the way the world takes its medicine.’ A prime example is the development of the first ever totally electronic dry powder inhaler. MicroDose’s unique ideas, creativity, and passion did not escape the attention of the healthcare industry. Soon, several major players, including Merck and Novartis, began collaborating with MicroDose on new products.

Founded in 1998 as MicroDose Technologies, Inc., the company has grown from its humble origins in that diner, to a thriving enterprise employing over 40 talented scientists, engineers, technicians, and staff. They have grown from a few rooms in a small rented house, to extensive offices including numerous labs and workshops where they imagine, create, test and retest their technologies and products. But despite their growth and success, they always retain their original simple idea – to be a company dedicated to creating better solutions.
